Forensics & separation sciences – CSI at MSB 2018

Every week, new drugs of abuse (new psychoactive substances, NPS) are identified worldwide, frequently related to severe poisonings, user's bizarre behavior or even death. In the doping control field, new synthetic anabolic substances and physiology manipulations procedures are being used in an attempt to improve performance in the sport, but without being detected in the anti-doping exams. Thus, the analytical toxicology laboratories have to be prepared to detect an enormous number of substances routinely, and also be ready to improve their method on a regular basis. This session will discuss these challenges, and how the separation techniques can help the forensic laboratories.
